AMELIA ISLAND, Florida-- Venus Williams set up a quarterfinal match against world No. 1 and defending champion Lindsay Davenport on Friday at the $585,000 Bausch & Lomb Championships.

The fifth-seeded Williams completed a three-set victory over Polish qualifier Marta Domachowska in a match that was postponed by rain. Domachowska won the first set, 6-3, and Williams won the second, 6-4, on Thursday before thunderstorms caused play to be suspended.

On Friday morning, Williams won the decisive third set, 6-2 and is now playing Davenport in the quarterfinals.

Davenport and Vera Zvonareva, the sixth seed from Russia, posted third-round victories Thursday before rain wiped out play for the day.

Davenport cruised past Czech qualifier Kveta Peschke, 6-2, 6-2, while Zvonareva bested fellow Russian and ninth seed Elena Likhovtseva, 6-4, 6-4.

Zvonareva next will face Virginie Razzano of France, who completed a 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 7-5 win over No. 14 Ai Sugiyama of Japan on Friday.

Four matches slated for Thursday were pushed back a day: second-seeded Serena Williams vs. No. 14 Mary Pierce of France; eighth-seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland vs. No. 12 Silvia Farina Elia of Italy; third-seeded Anastasia Myskina of Russia vs. No. 15 Shinobu Asagoe of Japan; and seventh-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova vs. Jelena Jankovic of Serbia & Montenegro.

The winners of those four matches will have to play twice Friday.

First prize in the Tier II event is $93,000.
